LogoThe Classical Academy of Sarasota began as a dream to bring classical education to Sarasota. The vision of its founders was to create a school committed to a classical liberal arts education emphasizing civic virtue and a return to the founding principles which have made America great. The original goal was to open as a charter school in order that tuition would not be a barrier for any family. However, after two years of trying to work with Sarasota County School District, it became apparent that TCA’s philosophy and methods of education did not fit the blueprint which the County was looking for. As TCA moved through the charter application process it also became apparent that in order to meet state and federal requirements TCA teachers and administration would be forced to compromise on many of the classical ideals which define our approach to education.

After months of thoughtful consideration and hours pouring over the options TCA’s Advisory Committee decided unanimously in September 2013 to pursue a private school option. We believe the freedom and educational advancement which this decision brings will prove to far outweigh the barrier of tuition. TCA’s Governing Board and Advisory Committee are working fervently to fundraise and secure financial scholarships for families who have a genuine need and are committed to classical education. The Governing Board is working to create a budget and set tuition which is fiscally responsible while keeping tuition costs to a minimum. The philosophy and heart of TCA remain unchanged and we believe that this decision will prove to be the greatest benefit to our students’ education.

As you consider your options for education, TCA asks that you truly examine the cost of a free public education. Few decisions have more potential and impact than your child’s education. The way they see the world, the way they approach life and the depth of their character are all influenced by education. Is your child's current school giving them the foundation they need to be a successful scholar and citizen?

What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value. – Thomas Paine, The American Crisis, Number 1
